A documentary on TV this week about rthe devastation caused by storm Éowyn will feature a Cavan family. Rebecca and Andrew Corbett from Bailieborough will speak about how, at the time of making the programme, they had endured a week without power. The programme will also feature ESB crews in Smithborough, County Monaghan where Éowyn left electricity infrastructure in ruins.
The RTÉ documentary called "Powerless: the Storm that Shook Ireland" will be broadcast this Thursday, 6th February at 7pm. The programme follows the Corbett family in the aftermath of the storm as what started out as an adventure for their kids soon turned into a struggle with camping stoves and limited food. It also shows how the kindness of the Corbett's neighbours in Bailiebotough helped them through.
Parts of Cavan and Monaghan including Bailieborough, are still without power today, 13 days after storm Éowyn.
"Powerless: The Storm That Shook Ireland" aims to give voice to people suffering in the the dark revealing the storm's devastating consequences through personal stories about the most significant weather event in living memory. The documentary will also hear comment from politicians, Met Éireann and The National Emergency Co-ordination Group reporting the story of what was or wasn't done for the duration of the storm and in its aftermath.
