The Clarke Family from Co Cavan had a massive 560 shoebox drop off last week in Cootehill for the Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal. The initiative aims to deliver as many gift-filled shoeboxes as possible to children, for whom poverty is an every-day reality.
The Family of 13 siblings, along with a tribe of kids, grandchildren, and close friends all helped to fill the shoeboxes and are continuing their late mother, Agnes Clarke's tradition. Helen Clarke told Northern Sound that it all began 15 years ago when her sister Noleen began making the shoeboxes with another group of people.
Her mother than became involved and it has now turned into a family tradition and one that appears to have a lasting legacy. "Our boxes from Cavan went to Romania last year. We followed the progress of where the boxes went on Facebook.
"And we were very excited to see children in Romania receiving our boxes a few weeks ago," Helen added.
