Cavan County Council are still awaiting a response to a letter the sent to a Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children back in March. Cavan County Councillors voted unanimously to write a letter to Minister Anne Rabbitte at the Department regarding the lack of respite care for children with additional needs in the county. That was in March, and to this day, neither Councillor Peter McVitty, Cavan County Council nor the many families desperately seeking respite care in Cavan, have received a response.
Cllr McVitty has raised the issue and asked whether the council received a response, at every council meeting since March. Since a response had still not been received by the time of the last county council meeting this week, a spokesperson for Cavan County Council told Northern Sound the council agreed to "again write to the Minister's office, outlining the councillors' desire for a meeting with the Minister."
"I made the request that we'd contact the relevant minister to see what could be done, is there any possibility that we could get positions or houses that these youngsters could be brought in and looked after for a couple of nights to give their parents a rest," Cllr McVitty told Northern Sound, "Now, what really annoyed me is the Minister never replied to us as councillors - and it had unanimous support - but the minister did not reply to us with a letter to say what she had planned.
