A Cavan estate agent says the housing market across the county is in a “healthy” position.
Raymond Smith from Smith Properties in Cavan says there is a “certain level” of vacant and derelict properties across the county and believes the increasing cost of materials and labour in the building of new homes has added extra pressures.
His comments come as Government announced yesterday a new scheme to support home ownership and tackle vacancy in towns.
The Croí Cónaithe scheme offers grants of €30,000 to €50,000 to first time buyers to support the refurbishment of empty homes and breathe new life into towns.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Mr Smith “welcomed” the news and says it will help maintain an already “active market."
