35,400 people living in Cavan were working as of April 2022 which is an increase of 16 percent to six years previously. New data released from the CSO showed that 64,000 people aged over 15 were living in Cavan as of the time the census was carried out.
The labour force participation rate was 61% in Cavan, the same as the national figure. Among females the rate was 54% while for males it was 68%. Most people working in Cavan were in full-time employment, with nearly 26,800 people in this category, compared with almost 5,000 who were working part-time.
Just over 3,600 people were unemployed in the county in April 2022. This was considerably lower than the 2016 figure of more than 5,400 people (a decrease of 33%). The unemployment rate was 9% compared with 15% in 2016. Manufacturing accounted for the largest number of workers in the county at almost 5,200. The Wholesale and Retail Trade sector was the next largest, with over 4,400 workers followed by Human Health and Social Work Activities with more than 4,000 workers.
