A Cavan based driving instructor says allowing test centres to operate at full capacity would help massively.
Only essential workers can take a test during the current restrictions.
However, there are concerns that a substantial number of them cannot complete their tests due to the backlog, which was worsened nationwide by cancellations last week because of weather conditions.
Matthew Keeney is a driving instructor in Cavan and he says that if they don't start to allow everyone to sit tests, and people complete their driving lessons the situation will deteriorate.
He says at present each tester is carrying out around 5 tests per day, however, he feels they could increase this to 8-9 daily :
