A driver who was four times over the drink drive limit and left the scene of an accident in Cavan yesterday has been charged and is due before the courts. Gardaí on patrol in Cavan dealt with this and another motoring incident shortly before.
Members were stopped by a motorist whose car had been involved in a collision in the Ballyjamesduff area. The driver told officers the other car involved failed to remain at the scene of the collision. Patrolling Gardaí subsequently located the offending vehicle along with its driver who was arrested for driving under the influence.
The driver was brought to Cavan Garda Station for further tests which showed the driver to be four times over the legal limit for drink driving. This driver has now been charged and is before the Courts. Shortly before this, officers came across a driver driving without insurance, driving licence , NCT or tax. Gardaí detained the car in question under Section 41 of Road Traffic Act and the driver now faces prosecution.
