A Cavan dentist has welcomed changes that came into effect this week in relation to dental treatments that are available to people who qualify for a medical card.
Dr Rachael Frazer from Frazer Dental based in Kingscourt, Co Cavan welcomed the news after what she described as a difficult number of years for the dental sector as a result of Covid-19.
The Kingscourt native told Northern Sound that she didn't 'lose faith' in the industry, despite up to 42% of dentists across the country deciding to stop the medical card scheme due to a lack of 'preventative care' available to patients during the pandemic.
She says there has been 'no emphasis' in recent years to prevent tooth loss under the scheme, with dentists previously capped to carry out only two fillings per year on medical card patients, while there was an unlimited number of tooth extractions which could be carried out per year under the scheme.
Dr Frazer added that patients deserve the "best care possible" and believes new changes announced to the scheme will make that happen at her Kingscourt practice.
