Cavan County Council has issued a warning to dog owners in light of the build up of algae bloom on a number of local lakes. The local authority says the bloom, which appear as a green scum, may appear on more lakes in the county throughout the summer months.
It is advising people to avoid contact with algal blooms because they are an irritant and can be toxic if ingested. The local authority says that dogs should be kept away from affected water or shorelines.
It added that dogs are particularly sensitive to these blooms.
