Cavan's GAA County Board has made a u-turn on its policy on use of cash for certain transactions. The board has now introduced further options for patrons who, for whatever reason, don't or won't, access technology to attend games.
In what is being hailed as a "Goal" scored for cash-users in the Breffni county. GAA fans can now buy books of tickets and senior citizens season passes which will give access to all games at any level of any championship up to and including semi-finals. The ticket books 5 tickets will be available from all club secretaries at a cost of €40. They'll also be available to buy from the County Board offices in Kingspan Breffni Park. The Senior Citizens season pass, is available for €70 but the closing date for applications for this pass is this Friday 27th July.
Cavan's Aontú Councillor Sarah O'Reilly has been a vocal critic of the GAA's no-cash policy and campaigned for this change for some time. She said the Cavan County Board's u-turn is a timely one since the Access to Cash Bill has just been enacted in the Dáil: "I've been a long-time vocal critic of the GAA's policy of asking fans to use card and online payments instead of cash and while this isn't cash at the turnstile it is a big win and one that means a lot to long-time fans of the GAA who wish to exercise their right to use cash," Cllr O'Reilly told Norther Sound, "Many of these fans were the ones who helped make the GAA the organisation today and I'm happy with this result."
