The Irish Central Border Area Network has received the support of Cavan County Council for its 2021-2027 plans.
ICBAN was established in 1995 to promote cross-border co-operation and communication at Local Government level.
This month Cavan councilors voted in favour of the Framework of Regional Priorities plan which aims to improve the quality of life and prosperity of the Central Border Region.
This forum provides a way to respond to the unique economic and social needs of the Central Border Region.
The eight Member Councils areas of the Central Border Region includes Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon; Fermanagh and Omagh; Mid Ulster and counties Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan and Sligo.
The plan for 2021 to 2027 was presented to Cavan County Council by CEO of ICBAN Shane Campbell this month.
He highlighted the main priorities in the years ahead including supporting economic development through adequate industrial spaces, enabling greater connectivity through digital hubs, and connected tourism projects.
There are 5 initial project concepts under the plan: river catchments' approaches, International Mountain Biking region, greenways and blueways, farm to fork and strengthening bioeconomy.
Councillors asked where funding would come from for projects and Mr. Campbell stated that Peace Plus funding would be crucial for these developments, as well as co-operation from the county councils and local stakeholders.
The council was assured that any work would be done to compliment their plans and would not work against them.
There was unanimous support from the Cavan County Council, while Monaghan County Council has also previously approved the plan.
