Cavan councillors have stressed the need for more government funding to tackle the vacant homes issue in the county.
It was confirmed at a recent meeting of the Cavan Belturbet MD that while 21 of these houses been done by the council since February 25 more had become vacant over that time meaning it is difficult to 'get ahead of'.
Fine Gael's Madeline Argue called for the matter to be placed on the agenda for each meeting until some resolution or commitment to address the problem was found.
She also highlighted the difficulties for single people to acquire a council house, stating that for many the HAP scheme is still unmanageable given the high rent prices in the area.
