A Cavan councillor has called for financial assistance to be given to healthcare professionals who move out of their home due to Covid-19 concerns.
Shane P O’Reilly says he has been approached by a number of nurses who have sought out private accommodation in order to protect their family from Covid.
While the HSE does provide temporary accommodation for nurses in these situations, Councillor O’Reilly says they are not up to standard and often lack washing and cooking facilities.
The Independent councillor says in one instance, a nurse has to pay €1,000 a month for rental accommodation all at her own expense.
He told the Joe Finnegan Show that he’s “exhausted every avenue” in trying to help these nurses, adding that they need practical support instead of “applause”:
