A Cavan councillor has disagreed with claims that social welfare increases announced in this week's budget were "too generous."
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Fianna Fáil councillor John Paul Feeley said "every budget will have its critics" and refuted claims that people are now anti-work.
He said it's important to realise that the purpose of this budget was to put money into people's pockets, in order to address the substantial cost of living issues, while also maintaining sustainable public finances.
As a public representative, Cllr Feeley revealed that he receives queries and deals with people from all parts of society
He added that as a society, we must be conscience that while increases of social welfare are welcomed, for those who are living on that income alone have to budget carefully when dealing with their weekly finances:
