Cavan Councillor Brendan Fay says the county “won’t be giving back” any of the almost €1 million euro in funding it has recently received for the refurbishment of 71 social housing units.
It comes amid concern that Cavan County Council will not be able to fully draw down recent funding that was granted under the 2020 Voids Stimulus Programme, which sees social housing units renovated and re-let to people struggling with homelessness or on the social housing list.
The funding was announced in September and has to be spent by December 4th, a deadline which Brendan Fay says is “impossible” to achieve.
However, the Cavan-Belturbet MD Chair told Shannonside Northern Sound that the Housing Executive is working on an application that will allow many of the 71 properties to be completed next year:
