A Cavan councillor has called on moves to close Navan A&E to be halted immediately.
Shane P O'Reilly says lives will be lost if the government doesn't put a stop to the by passing of the County Meath Hospital.
Yesterday, 931 patients were on trolleys in hospitals across the country. The highest number without a bed in Irish hospitals ever recorded by the INMO.
The councillor said this is now a serious crisis with Cavan and Blanchardstown at above capacity with 14 people on trolleys in Cavan General Hospital yesterday.
He added with 10 ambulances treating patients in the car park at Drogheda, the moves to close Navan must be halted immediately before someone needlessly looses their life.
