A Cavan councillor has been elected to the Seanad.
Sarah O'Reilly received over 58,000 first preference votes in the Seanad election.
She is Aontú's first ever senator for the party, and will now sit on the Agricultural Panel.
The East Cavan woman has been a councillor since 2016 and topped the poll in last year's local elections in the Bailieboro/Cootehill Municipal District.
Newly elected Senator Sarah O’Reilly says while she is sad to be leaving her role as a local councillor she is truly so proud to take on her new role as senator.
