A local Aontú Councillor has criticised the announcement of planning permission for two more Amazon data centres in north Dublin.
Data centres accounted for 14% of all electricity demand in the State last year and Eirgrid estimates this will rise to 29% by 2028.
Bailieborough's Sarah O'Reilly says the country's national grid is in a "seriously fragile position" and that over two days last week two separate amber alters were issued.
She added that the current level of consumption is not sustainable.
Cllr O'Reilly says it's "illogical" to afford an individual sector such a large portion of the electricity market in Ireland.
