A Cavan councillor has voiced his concerns over new research carried out by the ESRI.
According to Cllr Shane P O'Reilly, the findings show two in every five households are now living in energy poverty, due to rising fuel and electricity prices.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr O'Reilly said people are struggling right across the region, which in his view, raises questions over what is being done by Government Departments on energy poverty.
Cllr O'Reilly who recently announced that he will run in the next general election as a Rural Independent TD, said it's important to help those who are worried.
