The rising cost of fuel was addressed by members of Cavan County Council long before this war in Ukraine broke out.
This is according to Cllr Shane P O'Reilly who told those gathered at this week's meeting that the matter had been raised as far back as December.
He said he was annoyed by the situation.
He also highlighted how disappointed he was in Minister Pascal Donohoe whom he said, didn't even respond to the letter members sent him at the end of last year about the matter.
Cllr O'Reilly told the meeting that the only way forward was for the Government to reduce the VAT.
He added that Turkey had capped its fuel at €1.30 this week and yet Ireland now found itself in "serious trouble".
