A Cavan councillor has called for a training academy to be established in the region to address the labour shortage in the construction sector.
TP O'Reilly is also encouraging young people to take up a profession within the sector because the shortage of labour has created a lot of opportunities, both at home and abroad.
He says many people who embark on apprenticeships then go on to set up their own companies and become jobs creators in their community.
He added that apprenticeships can be a "win-win" for both the apprentice and the employer.
