"Bawnboy Garda Station served the area well and it's of the essence that it's retained."
That's according to councillor Sean Smith, in relation to the re-opening of the station which is "under review", despite being included in a 2016 Programme for Government commitment.
Councillor Smith believes the people of Bawnboy would like to see the station restored to its former glory, and highlighted concerns over the threat of cross-border crimes.
Last week, Justice Minister Helen McEntee said she was advised by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris that the re-opening of Bawnboy Garda Station has "not been advanced as yet."
In a statement to Northern Sound, a Garda spokesperson said the re-opening is "under review" and being considered "in the context of available funding as provided to An Garda Siochána under the National Development Plan."
Meanwhile Councillor Smith says he is "outraged" over the lack of response he has received from the Garda Commissioner over the matter, which he went on to describe as "not good enough."
