A local councillor has raised the need for more supports to be given to carers locally.
Cllr Noel Connell brought the motion to fruition at the most recent sitting of Cavan County Council this month.
He called on the local authority to do whatever was needed to assist carers in the work they do.
There were more than 3,600 unpaid carers in Monaghan and 4,600 in Cavan in April 2022 according to CSO figures released earlier this year.
Cllr Connell said carers and their families are being left high and dry.
He said more needs to be done to help our most vulnerable in society:
