Boris Johnson "bowing to the inevitable" will have consequences for the Island of Ireland as a whole.
That's according to political commentator Sean McKiernan from Cavan who believes that issues of Irish interest "won't be" a primary part of the debate within the Tory leadership.
The Cavan native believes "Anti-Europeanism" is something that has taken over the Tory Party which started with Margaret Thatcher's down fall.
While Boris Johnson has agreed to step down following mounting pressure, the local commentator hopes the future Prime Minister will carry out the role with "decency" and "integrity."
Almost 60 MPs have now quit their government jobs, following a string of protests against Johnson's leadership.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Sean McKiernan described Boris Johnson's current position as an "incredible waste of political talent and ability," stating that it is a "shame" Mr Johnson could not have had "more discipline."
