A local coal and fuel supplier says the smoky coal ban is “ridiculous”.
The Environment Minister, Eamon Ryan, today signed the regulation that will see the ban introduced in 13 new areas, including Cavan Town and Longford Town, from the 1st of September.

Tommy Sheehan, from North Pole Fuels in Cavan, says too many people will be priced out of the smokeless alternative.

Mr Sheehan says that many coal suppliers have already went out of business and claims that no politicians are listening to his concerns.
He told Shannonside Northern Sound that coal suppliers are thriving in the north, particularly along the border, while many in the Republic have faced closures:
