Cavan Co Council has voted to allow the development of one-off housing on family land as the new County Development Plan comes closer to fruition.
The matter arose at last week's meeting when members agreed that it would be important for the future viability of the county.
Under the National Framework 2040 the building off one-off housing in the countryside is not being considered.
Cllr John Paul Feeley says that while councillors are aware that the planning regulator might not approve of their decision, the benefits of that type of development to the community as well and the social and economic fabric of the county cannot be understated.
Meanwhile, Cavan's County Development Plan 2023-2028 will be unveiled on the 16th of July next.
