A lorry stopped by Cavan Gardaí had several major defects including a magnet on its gearbox.
Cavan Roads Policing Unit and the RSA conducted joint checkpoints from 5am on Tuesday morning. The joint agency checkpoints ran throughout the day and were organised to check all vehicles including lorries, jeeps, tractors and trailers.
The illegal practice of attaching a magnet to a truck's gearbox is done to avoid being caught driving excessive hours. The truck stopped in Cavan has been detained for further investigations and tests.
