The Cathoirleach of Cavan County Council says local Tidy Towns groups need regular maintenance to assist with their volunteerism.
Sarah O'Reilly has also called for the public to be made aware of when street sweepers will be availed of so that "the best use can be made of it".
Councillor O'Reilly says this would allow people to park their cars elsewhere and help Tidy Towns groups "make better use of the sweeper when it does come".
A recent Bailieborough-Cootehill MD meeting was told that around 50-thousand euro a year is spent on street sweepers in area, and Councillor O'Reilly says the current "ad-hoc" schedule isn't offering "value for money":
