An award-winning Cavan bus driver has spoken out about her desire to see "more women" entering the industry. Teresa Hatchett was recently crowned 'Driver of the Year' at Bus Éireann's recent GEM Awards for the Eastern region. Speaking to Northern Sound following her recent win, Teresa said it was a "great feeling" to get the achievement. When asked if she feels additional pressure working in the industry as a woman, Teresa said that everyone was "more than welcoming" when she first started and that she wasn't impacted by any stereotypes when she applied for her bus licence.
Teresa said that she would encourage anyone to give the profession a go adding that she "loves her job" which is why she is so dedicated to it.
"Bus Éireann are currently employing more women and we've took on more women in recent times which is great to see," explained Teresa. "I genuinely love my job and that's why I'm so dedicated to it. I absolutely love driving a bus and the passengers are what makes it. It's actually the best job I've ever had and I wish I done it years ago."
