The Cavan-Belturbet Municipal District has passed a motion to include the provision of additional lighting on the Yellow Road in Ballyconnell to its roadworks programme.
The motion was raised by Councillors Sean Smith and Peter McVitty.
Sean Smith told the meeting that women have approached him to say they are concerned about their safety when walking the road, due to a lack of lighting.
He added that it can also be difficult for senior citizens to navigate the road.
Councillor Peter McVitty said it's an on-going issue and can be very dangerous, particularly in the Wintertime.
Senior Executive Engineer, Paul Mulligan, told the meeting that it should be a "straight forward project" and he will seek funding for the works.
