A man living in Co Cavan has expressed his support for the stance Sabina Higgins, wife of Irish President Michael D Higgins, has taken over the war in Ukraine.
Sabina Higgins wrote to the Irish Times, calling for both Ukraine and Russia to engage in peace negotiations, the letter also appeared on the President's official website, but was later removed.
Since then, Mrs Higgins has faced criticism from those who believe she had "no right" to publish the letter on the President's website, given the Irish Government's support of Ukraine's fight to survive the war.
Despite this, Tom McNulty who is a former IRA volunteer and activist from Cavan recalled the benefits of the North's ceasefire back in 1994, and the impact it had on the lives of people involved in the conflict.
Mr McNulty believes it's only "armchair generals" who are sitting "miles away" from the conflict who want to see the war escalating to the "last drop of someone else's blood."
According to the former IRA volunteer, the cause of any war is the failure of diplomacy, and that "every single conflict" has been brought to an end by peace negotiations. As a result, he says Sabina Higgins "is right" for her views and the sooner peace negotiations take place between Russia and Ukraine "the better":
