A Cavan artist has been shortlisted by the National Gallery of Ireland for this year's Young Portrait Prize.
Adam Wiercioch Chinatamunnee, age 8, from Cavan has been shortlisted along with 19 other young artists from across the country with his entry titled "My Mother", a piece in oil pastel on paper.
It's not the first time the eight year old has been shortlisted for a national art competition. The winner of the AIB Portrait Prize will receive a cash prize of €15,000 and will be commissioned to create a work for the national portrait collection, for which they will be awarded a further €5,000.
All twenty shortlisted entrants will have their artwork professionally framed and exhibitions of the shortlisted works in both competitions run at the National Gallery of Ireland from November to next March.
