A Cavan animal rescue centre has been forced to temporarily close its doors due to a lack of funding.
The Kitten Cottage Animal Sanctuary has been operating in Virginia for more than 20 years, and now has to turn away rescue animals because of over €2,000 in outstanding bills.
Marie Egan says they've seen more cats surrendered in the last six months than ever before, which is being put down to the rise in pet ownership during Covid.
She told Shannonside Northern Sound they've six cats in their care currently, and will continue to provide emergency care in the area until they reopen fully.
