Cavan and Monaghan are set to share in a national funding injection of €290,000 for peatlands initiatives across the country.
In Cavan, Killyconny Bog Group is being allocated €13,777 to increase community engagement through a number of projects while €9,750 has been awarded to St Killian's Heritage Trust to develop education and awareness packages, and the provision of craft workshops and classes.
Meanwhile, in Co Monaghan, the River Blackwater Catchment Trust will receive €15,000 as part of this year's Peatlands Community Engagement Scheme.
Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform, Malcolm Noonan, who announced the funding earlier this week, highlighted how communities play a vital role in the mission of the National Parks and Wildlife Service to protect nature.
He added that Ireland's Peatlands are places of serenity and a wonderful showcase of what nature has to offer with a huge variety of plants, animals and rare species to enjoy.
