Monaghan County Libraries has teamed up with TFI Local Link Cavan Monaghan to give away free books on buses on all Monaghan routes today. Bags are being placed on seats containing 'Quick Reads' which Monaghan County Libraries are gifting to TFI Local Link passengers.
The initiative is being run in conjunction with tomorrow's national Read's Day when people will be asked to make a pledge to indulge in a book at some stage during the day. Karen McCague, Executive Librarian with Monaghan County Libraries, told Northern Sound that Ireland Read's Day is about reaching those who love and read books.
She added that libraries have evolved over the years to become hives of activity in communities across the region. "We have some fabulous buildings here in Co Monaghan and libraries have really come on from what they used to be.
"So, I think that if people aren't using the library services, they might be pleasantly surprised if they came into the building and saw all the services that are available. I also say to people that the library is a calming, community space to come to, where there are different classes and activities all of which are free of charge," said Karen.
