Twelve dentists across Cavan and Monaghan have left the scheme for medical card holders.
Figures in the Irish Independent report that there's now just an estimated one dentist for each 2,000 medical card holders in Ireland.
Since 2016, the number of dentists in the Cavan/Monaghan region signed up to the scheme has fallen by 25 per cent.
There's a concern that people may face a postcode lottery for care as private dentists leave the programme.
Dublin South East saw the largest drop, with 46 dentists exiting the scheme - a drop of 85 per cent since 2016.
