The winners of the Volunteers in Sports Award in 2024 for Cavan and Monaghan has been announced. The annual awards honours 35 'exceptional' volunteers from every county in Ireland, celebrating the local champions in Irish sport.
In the Northern Sound region, Brian McKeown from Cavan and Pat McCabe from Monaghan were honoured. Brian volunteers with Cavan Boxing Club and Pat McCabe works with Clones FC. Both men have earned a €200 donation for their clubs.
Every week, across Ireland, 460,000 volunteers dedicate their time to support 1.47 million club members making an economic contribution to sports clubs all over, which, estimated to be valued at €1.5 billion euro annually.
