Local actor Aaron Monaghan is the artistic director for Cavan's Livin' Dred theatre company. As well as this, Aaron and his wife Clare Monnelly are together premiering a new one-man play called Super-Bogger. The show will take place tomorrow night and Thursday night at 8pm in the Townhall, Cavan. Speaking to Northern Sound, the local actor revealed that Super-Bogger is the hilarious origin-story of Ireland's first superhero, and a roller-coaster deep-dive into the fragmented mind of a modern parent.
According to Aaron, this role has been his biggest challenge to date as an actor, however premiering the show in his home county of Cavan will be somewhat of a comfort to him. He described the sense of pride felt when performing in front of a home audience as "phenomenal." Based at the Ramor Theatre, Virginia, the Livin' Dred theatre company was founded in January 2004 by Padraic McIntyre, Aaron Monaghan and Mary Hanley.
"Livin' Dred will be 20 years old next year, and the reason we founded the company was because we strongly felt that people from Cavan and neighbouring counties shouldn't have to go to a big places like Dublin to see great work. It was very much part of our mission to bring great theatre to the people of this region. It's always top of our agenda to make sure that our show opens in our home town. The sense of pride of getting to do that is phenomenal. The support from the audience is unwavering, we’ve built up an amazing audience over the last 20 years and they’ve came with us.”
