First-time TD Cathy Bennett of Sinn Féin says she and returning TD Matt Carthy will go to the Dáil this morning to see if their party can form a coalition. The two Cavan-Monaghan Sinn Féin TDs had to wait until yesterday evening to confirm their election but, are heading to Dublin today to be part of government formation negotiations.
Deputy Bennett said she is overwhelmed by the trust and support local voters have placed in her. The current Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council says she will prove herself in Dáil Éireann on behalf of the people of Cavan and Monaghan.
She also told Northern Sound that Sinn Féin who now has 39 seats in the Dáil will not close the door on any party who wants to discuss sharing government:
