Representatives from each of the political parties in a Cavan Municipal District are calling for more information from IPAS on a proposed direct provision centre.
Recently, residents of Fairtown, Castletara staged a protest against the proposed centre in their rural area.
The six councillors from Bailieborough-Cootehill Municipal District met with the executive of Cavan County Council before their last monthly meeting and asked for an update on the situation.
Councillor Paddy McDonald said "unfortunately" Cavan County Council has "no say" over who is moved into the area. Those decisions are made at government level by IPAS, the International Protection Accommodation Services.
He said residents "don't know who is coming, how many are coming or if anyone is coming".
Councillor McDonald also said he and all the other local councillors have been approached by local residents wanting to know more:
"Unfortunately, they can't get the information from IPAS to see who is coming or are they coming," Cllr McDonald told Northern Sound News, "But, hopefully the situation can be resolved, however, we need more communication with IPAS for the local residents."
