'Cash is still king'.
And that's according to Carrickmaccross businessman, Brian Birdy who was reacting to the news earlier today that AIB had reversed its decision to make 70 of its branches cashless.
Mr Birdy, whose branch is Carrickmacross was initially earmarked for the cashless service, highlighted the 'shock' and 'confusion' that emerged among his staff after the news broke.
He said 40% of his business operates through cash trading and the removal of the local banking service would have created a lot of addition problems for him.
Mr Birdy said that while cashless payments became more popular during the Covid-19 pandemic, cash was now back in fashion.
Meanwhile, Cavan Monaghan TD, Deputy Niamh Smyth told Northern Sound that AIB needed to be remined that the taxpayer held a 60% share in the business.
She said the bank had no right to make the decision to go cashless, in the first instance, without public consultation.
While, Deputy Smyth welcomed the reversal, she added it would not have been made possible were it not for the intervention of the Taoiseach, Micheal Martin on Thursday.
