A Carrickmacross retailer says as long as there is cash in circulation, her store will accept it.
Rosie McChesney runs a boutique in the Co Monaghan town and she told Northern Sound that plenty of cash is being spent in local towns despite increases in card transactions.
Her comments come as the cashless society being dictated by advances in digital technologies becomes more evident, particularly since the Covid-19 pandemic emerged.
MsChesney highlighted how there is still a cohort of people using cash and not everybody chooses to use debit cards as a method of payment.
She added that while changes are evident, it is her belief that cash will be around for some time to come.
"We can see the move and it is about 60% 40% in relation to card and cash payments," she continued.
"But cash is still alive and kicking in the rural towns.
"And there is no way that we are going to stop accepting it."
