There was great local success for businesses across Monaghan recently at the National Irish Wedding Awards.
One of the top winners on the night was Carrickroe business woman Deanna Campbell of the popular 'D's Cakes'.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Deanna revealed that her previous background was in civil engineering, but she decided to look at starting her own business after she was made redundant back in 2008.
Since starting D's Cakes in 2015, the Monaghan woman has only gone from strength to strength. Deanna won the Ulster Cake Designer of the year and the overall Irish Cake Designer of the year this year, as well as the Ulster title.
As a result of her success, Deanna has praised the work of Monaghan Integrated Development and the Local Enterprise Office for offering her the right support in order to make her dreams come true.
"I've been making cakes since as long as I can remember, one of my earliest memory is making buns with mammy at the kitchen table, therefore cakes was the only way to go for me," she explained.
"I've always really enjoyed keeping up with the latest trends - you really have to as people will automatically want the latest thing, particularly with wedding cakes."
Describing her latest victory as a "great honour," that all important "personal touch" is something which Deanna prides herself on, and is something which has set her business apart from other competitors down through the years.
