The new Youthreach centre in Carrickmacross is about future proofing education for the wider area of Carrickmacross.
That's the view of the local Youthreach manager, Bernie Duffy who says the programme is designed for individuals who have left school without formal qualifications, offering them opportunities for return to education, personal development, vocational training, and valuable work experience.
She says one of the big benefits of Youthreach centres, is the smaller numbers. Carrickmacross has 20 students enrolled with two classes of seven and one class of six. Bernie says seeing these young people strive over a number of years and really go from strength to strength is wonderful.
The Co Cavan native says anxiety is a major issue and these smaller groups really allow for our younger people to engage and also learn. The new premises for the local Youthreach is in the former Ulster Bank on the Main Street in Carrick. Bernie says Youthreach centres across Cavan and Monaghan offer young people an opportunity to return to education and progress up to the likes of level 8 and level 9 courses.
