The Carrickmacross Toy Library has been awarded funding from an international philanthropic organisation. The non-profit business is a registered charity, which, has been running its unique service for the past four years from its location in the Carrickmacross Shopping Centre.
Today, the library has 150 members with people travelling from Cavan, Louth and even Meath to borrow toys for their children aged up to eight years. The funding has come from the The Ireland Funds, a global philanthropic network established in 1976 to promote and support peace, culture, education and community development throughout the island of Ireland.
Jill Kennon runs the Carrickmacross Toy Library and she told Northern Sound, the funding will be used on all the 'boring stuff' like all the running costs associated with a business and is very much welcomed: "We're obviously delighted to be recognised by the Ireland Funds," Jill said, "A lot of work goes in to applying for the grants. We're a non-profit registered charity organisation and for our running costs we rely on the generosity of sponsors and grant awards to keep our service running. Wer have members who come to us from neighbouring counties from Kingscourt, Louth and Meath as well so, we have over 150 people on our books."
