A Carrickmacross teenager has paid tribute to her former school for making her into the "person that she is today." 19-year-old Sara Marza made her home county of Monaghan proud this week after she scooped-up a Special Achievement Award at the annual National Garda Youth Awards.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, the former Inver College student who is originally from Syria said that her "life completely changed" after she made friends during her Junior Cert year. Initially after arriving to Ireland with her family back in 2018, Sara said that she "struggled" due to the language barrier and a lack of friends.
Despite this, the local teen has gone from strength to strength since making Carrickmacross her home. Sara who is now studying biomedical and pharmaceutical science in Dundalk, believes that anything is possible, no matter who you are or where you come from.
"After I started making friends, I felt like my life had changed completely and I became a person who I was so proud of. The people here are so lovely and I feel like I've made Ireland my home," explained Sara.
