A Monaghan based scout group is recruiting for new leaders to join them.
The Carrickmacross scout group will be hosting an information night tomorrow in the Scout's Hall on O'Neill Street, Carrickmacross at 8pm. Leaders facilitate children in learning the scouting skills to a set curriculum and ensure their safety on activities. Trina Marron, who's a current scout leader with the Carrickmacross scouts, is encouraging people to come along to find out everything about the role. Currently, the Carrickmacross scouts have a waiting list due to low staffing levels and new leaders are now needed.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Trina Marron says the scouts gives children skills for life and is of huge benefit to the local area.
"The skills and the attributes you develop as a child growing up within the scouts is amazing. You develop the skills that are required for life. You develop the resilience required. You might go on a week's camp, and it could bucket down with rain and you develop the resilience to get through that. You come back a more grown person. So definitely, scouts are a massive attribute to the community and to the young people and families in the community".
