A Carrickmacross Garda is to be posthumously awarded a bravery medal for his actions during a 1983 kidnapping.
The kidnapping of businessman Don Tidey by the IRA led to a nationwide manhunt, eventually leading Gardai to Derrada Woods in Leitrim.
Mr Tidey was freed when the hideout was discovered on December 16th, but Garda Gary Sheehan from Carrickmacross and Private Patrick Kelly from Longford were shot dead.
Scott Medals for bravery will be presented at an event tomorrow to Gardai who were involved in the 1983 incident.
The highest honour, a gold medal, will be posthumously awarded to Garda Sheehan.
