The founders of the popular Carrickmacross Toy Library emerged victorious at the recent All Ireland Community and Council Awards. Local duo Jill Kennon and Elaine Murphy-Byrne won the 'Community Volunteer of the Year' award for creating Ireland's very first children's toy library.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Co-Founder, Jill Kennon described the recent win as a "great honour." She added that since its inception back in 2020, the local toy library has gone from strength to strength, with ever-increasing membership.
Jill also revealed that the Carrickmacross Toy Library first began in a small room at the workhouse in Carrickmacross but due to its success has since moved to a stand-alone premises on the Castleblayney Road.
Now with almost 90 members and the support of local schools, Jill added that attracting new members each week is a "great endorsement" for what they offer.
