A Carrickmacross man who changed careers from construction to caring work has brought national glory to Co Monaghan. Gary Morgan was crowned "Overall Winner" at the Nursing Home Ireland Care Awards 2024. Mr Morgan who is a Senior Household Coordinator at Castleross Nursing Home was praised for his "exceptional leadership, compassion, and commitment to resident care."
The Carrick native has made an "indelible impact" on the local nursing home, its staff, and the wider Monaghan community. Colleagues joined Gary at the awards ceremony also to mark the momentous occasion, embodying the teamwork and unity that are "hallmarks of" Castleross Nursing Home's ethos. Speaking to Northern Sound, Gary said that he has "never looked back" since starting his caring career. Gary’s journey is inspiring having transitioned from the construction industry to over a decade of compassionate service at Castleross Nursing Home. His leadership and dedication to person-centred care have made a lasting impact on residents, colleagues, and the wider community. The award was particularly poignant for Gary as it coincided with what would have been his late mother’s birthday, making the recognition deeply personal.
Gary told Northern Sound, "When I first walked through the doors of Castleross Nursing Home the warmth and passion that I felt when entering that building was just unbelievable. I went home that evening and the first thing I said to my family was - this is the job for me. That's where my journey started and I knew from that moment that this would be my journey for the rest of the days."
